Knoll Packaging has been shortlisted for six 2022 UK Packaging Awards. The categories include Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Year, Innovation of the Year, and Limited Edition of the Year. The winners will be announced in London on October 19.

Knoll Packaging’s Consumption Database was nominated for Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Year. The project’s objective is to understand all material used in our products, annual consumption, and supply chain beyond tier 1. Since 2021, data has been collected for all shipments, including origin of forest-based products, weight of material used, features of material, and more. Through this data-driven approach, Knoll can identify areas of improvement and are on track to eliminate over 200 metric tons of plastic from its supply chain in 2022 through ongoing analysis and implementation of new materials.

For their holiday packaging, Jo Malone introduced a star-shaped 100% Knoll Ecoform molded pulp base and cover, which has been shortlisted for Innovation of the Year. The package was designed to hang, and the molded pulp has been perfectly color matched to Jo Malone's iconic cream paper. The brands logo has also been stamped on the cover, and the 100% Knoll Ecoform molded pulp is certified recyclable in the paper recycling steam.

The Chanel Knoll Ecoform molded pulp Advent Calendar and Chanel Knoll Ecoform molded pulp clamshell were both shortlisted for Limited Edition of the Year and Innovation of the Year categories. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the N°5 perfume, Chanel partnered with Knoll Packaging to reinvent its packaging with a 100% Knoll Ecoform pulp clamshell, and develop the brands first advent calendar out of pulp. Knoll Ecoform was chosen for both projects for its sustainable materials, design qualities, and ability to be perfectly formed to recreate the iconic N°5 perfume bottle, fully realized as a clamshell and a larger-than-life advent calendar. These two projects require the highest level of expertise to achieve the perfect finishes and complex shapes, which is possible through Knoll’s technical knowledge and collaboration with Chanel.

James Kendall, Vice President of UK sales said, “Each year we look forward to the UK Packaging Awards. It’s an opportunity to celebrate not only our work, but also our entire industry. It is wonderful to have Jo Malone, an iconic heritage UK brand, shortlisted for their first 100% Knoll Ecoform molded pulp packaging. This project took extraordinary skill to not only color match the pulp, but also design for it to hang. It is also a thrill for the Chanel advent calendar and clamshell to be shortlisted. These two molded pulp projects have completely re-defined luxury packaging and set a new standard for sustainable packaging. In 2021, we relocated our UK office to Bath, the green eco-city of the UK. The office itself is set in a Georgian Grade 1 listed building and is 100% carbon neutral with many energy saving and environmental measures in place. This commitment to sustainability makes it a district privilege to be shortlisted for Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative of the Year. Knoll continues to set a benchmark for sustainable business practices in our industry, and our Material Consumption Database is just one of our industry-first approaches in place. We look forwarding to celebrating these nominations together in October and thank all of the judges for the recognition.”

Knoll Packaging is the most-shortlisted company for Innovation of the Year and will display its latest creations at London Packaging Week in September.
