Knoll Packaging has been nominated for three Formes de Luxe Awards. The Chanel Knoll Ecoform Molded Pulp Advent Calendar and MAC 12 Lipstick Holiday Coffret were nominated for Best Cosmetics Coffret, and the Jo Malone Knoll Ecoform Molded Pulp Star was nominated for Best Communications. The winners will be announced as part of LuxePack Monaco on October 3.

Chanel’s very first advent calendar is nominated for Best Cosmetics Coffret and celebrates the 100th anniversary of its N°5 fragrance. The large-format design (48cm high) is in the shape of the iconic fragrance bottle. The calendar is made of Knoll Ecoform molded pulp. The hinged structure with beveled edges is comprised of two laminated layers of Knoll Ecoform for a smooth appearance inside and out. The white pulp is color matched, molded and then cut. Inside are 27 folding carton boxes made of FSC paper. The height of the advent calendar proved a challenge, and feet were integrated to ensure stability both when empty and filled with products.

The MAC 12 lipstick set is also nominated for Best Cosmetics Coffret. It combines FSC paper & board with biodegradable acetate film coating, a Knoll Ecoform molded pulp platform and magnet closure. The coffret opens horizontally with 4 hinges, allowing it to be opened onto itself for display, held in place with a locking magnet. The use of a recyclable pulp platform has eliminated more than 9 tons of plastics. Ensuring the products remained in the pulp cavities during shipping and when opening the coffret, which was achieved with perfection.

The recyclable, star-shaped Jo Malone holiday packaging is nominated for Best Communications category. The base and cover are 100% Knoll Ecoform molded pulp, and the pack also includes a recycled ribbon and Artcard tag. The molded pulp was color matched to Jo Malone’s iconic cream paper, and the cover stamped with the brand’s logo. Ensuring a closure that would hold proved a feat – the flange around the base was extended to ensure a perfect friction fit with the cover. The 100% Knoll Ecoform packaging was also designed to double as an ornament.

Benjamin Cohen, Creative & Innovation Director at Knoll Packaging, said “Each year we look forward to celebrating the best of luxury packaging at the Formes de Luxe Awards in Monaco. These industry-first nominated projects for Chanel, MAC and Jo Malone are the most complex Knoll Ecoform molded pulp coffrets to hit the market and required the highest level of technical expertise to develop. Whether it’s a larger-than-life molded pulp advent calendar for Chanel, a 100% pulp base-and-cover star designed to hang for Jo Malone, or a multi-hinged coffret with pulp platforms for MAC, we’re looking at a new benchmark for sustainable luxury packaging that only Knoll can achieve. Our team is thrilled to be nominated and to continue pushing the boundaries of packaging.”

Knoll Packaging won the 2021 Formes de Luxe Awards for Chanel’s first Knoll Ecoform molded pulp clamshell. Knoll will present its latest innovations at London Packaging Week on Septmeber 21-22 and LuxePack Monaco October 3 – 5, 2022.
