Knoll Packaging Sets the Highest Sustainability Standards

In line with the high standards it has set for itself, Knoll Packaging has just been awarded the Gold EcoVadis ranking and the title of LEAD company in the United Nations Global Compact.

Knoll was the only SME packaging company to be admitted to the restricted circle of LEAD Companies in the United Nations Global Compact in 2019. In 2020, Knoll was again awarded this honor, and advanced its EcoVadis ranking to reach Gold status for the first time: "According to the 21 criteria of the EcoVadis ranking-criteria that concern the environment as well as social justice at work, business ethics and sustainability of supply, this year we are among the the top 4% of all rated companies," underlines Benjamin Cohen, Creative & Innovation Director.

If this double consecration is a reason for pride, it is above all an objective validation of the company’s concrete commitment to sustainable development.

Knoll has implemented FSC certification on all its materials, becoming the first company in the paper box category to do so. Cohen says: "We are working to make our sustainable business practices transparent and measurable. Over the past year, we have seen a tremendous amount of implementation and successes with our CSR initiatives essentially removing plastic from our supply chain". Knoll, for example, has seen many cosmetics and spirits brands begin to adopt its sustainable packaging solutions, including Jo Malone, which now incorporates Knoll Ecoform into its packaging.

"Knoll Ecoform is a material made from bamboo fibers and sugar cane residues, 100% biodegradable, compostable and recyclable," says Florence Dancoisne, General Manager Europe. "Its premium appearance and mechanical qualities make it suitable for making platforms as well as for creating single-material boxes."

But Knoll Ecoform is not the only innovative material Knoll offers: "We approach each package individually, paying particular attention to the materials and end of life," says Benjamin Cohen. "For example, we have developed high-end paper ribbons, cellulose-based lamination films - matt, satin or glossy-and polyester-free metallized paper, all of which are perfectly recyclable in the cardboard industry". Not to mention the thousand and one geometries of hand-wrapped cardboard platforms in which Knoll has expertise.

As a leading supplier, we have a duty to be proactive and transparent, both to our customers and to consumers," concludes Benjamin Cohen. The health crisis has acted as an accelerator and we are emerging from the pandemic stronger, fully determined to transform our sector to protect our planet".

Knoll Packaging is the official partner of the Formes de Luxe Awards 2020 edition.
